Additionally, during hot weather, the patches can be replaced with ice packs to cool the body. There are numerous self-heating products on the market. Their packaging costs are basically the same, yet they differ greatly in price and quality. Why is that?
Today I’ll share a key detail with you—the difference in iron powder, a core raw material: secondary reduced iron powder and ordinary iron powder.
Ordinary iron powder: It is made by simple reduction of iron oxides or physical processing (e.g., crushing). It has a high impurity content, uneven particle sizes, a black appearance and a rusty odor, with a price range of 4,300 to 5,500 CNY per ton.
Secondary reduced iron powder: It undergoes a two-step reduction process: iron ore is first converted into sponge iron, followed by further high-temperature reduction, cleaning and classification. With a purity of 98%, it features uniform and fine particles as well as a loose and porous structure, presenting a gray color and no peculiar smell. Its price ranges from 5,900 to 6,800 CNY per ton.
Secondary reduced iron powder offers better heating efficiency, higher safety and stronger reaction activity. It can react fully with oxygen to release heat continuously and stably without producing any harmful side reactions.
